Registering yourself as a DJ

As soon as you've clicked "play" from the main page, you will see a short animated intro of the game. After this feature, you will be presented with the "login/create account" screen. You will then have to go through a short registration process to create yourself a unique DJ username and password. After filling out the required fields, your DJ is created and you may go back to the main page, where you will enter your new username and password. Once this is done, you are logged into the game. You are now at your very private Loft, the launchpad of all your DJ activity.
IMPORTANT NOTE: When you quit DJ Nights, your game is AUTOMATICALLY SAVED, so you don't need to worry about that.

The Loft

Welcome to your home! Upon entering, you are presented with an information screen which indicates the current date and time as well as the different actions offered to you: "PRACTICE AND GET ORGANIZED", "GO SHOPPING", or "SLEEP". On the right side of the screen, is located the "INVENTORY" pull-down menu, accessible with a single click. The "STATUS" menu at the bottom of the screen displays your current cash, respect and energy points available. The "INVENTORY" menu displays all your current belongings, which you can reorganize in any way you want.

Practice and get organized

This option takes you to your music room, the holy ground of your musical inspiration. In this room you will find your Virtual Spinning Console (VSC). Use this musical weapon at parties to unleash all your spinning know how. In this music room of yours, you can choose and try your music playlist(s) in advance, and transfer your plates from your inventory to your VSC "ROAD PACK". The "ROAD PACK " is your precise selection of plates to bring with you and to play at parties. As you advance in the game, you will shop for more and better plates. The VSC ROAD PACK can only carry up to 15 plates however, so you'll have to be carefully of your selection.

Go Shopping

This option brings you to the city map where you can buy your plates from various shops: the Trance Shop, the House Shop, the Drum 'n' Bass shop or the Hardcore shop.

Sleep

Sleeping makes you regain a certain amount of the energy that you have lost while playing at parties. When this option is selected during the daytime, you lose your chance to go shopping, and instead sleep like a bum all day long. However, if you go shopping first, the "SLEEP" option is replaced by the "JUMP INTO NIGHT TIME". You may now select this option or continue shopping.

Shop screens

The choice is yours: Trance, House, Drum 'n' Bass or Hardcore. When you enter a shop, you are greeted by the salesperson and a menu display appears. The display presents you with the plates you may currently buy in the shop. Rolling your mouse pointer over a plate shows the artist and track name. Clicking on a plate enables to actually purchase that plate. Your confirmation to purchase puts that plate automatically in your inventory.

You have three (3) tracks to choose from. In each track you will find four (4) plate loops. The plate loops range from" D" level to "A" level. "D" is the cheapest and lowest quality. Consequently, the "A" loop is the best and most expensive.

There are rumors that you can purchase other useful things at the stores but it's nothing we would, um... suggest. Or maybe?

The Parties

Now that you have your plates, have practiced and have set up your "ROAD PACK", you are ready to go out and spin. Hit the "SLEEP" OR "JUMP TO NIGHT TIME" button and then press "GO PARTY!". The map comes up, displaying the available parties for the night. Choose the one where you want go and you're off! There are two types of parties: the House Party and the Club Night.

HOW IT WORKS: Like in a real-life party, people don't all have the same musical preferences. The crowd will most likely want to hear different music styles during the night. In this game, the crowd likes a certain amount (in percentage %) of each of the four styles (Trance, House, Hardcore and Drum 'n' Bass). This means that if you want your night to be a success, you have to guess which plates to play (and in which order) as to make the crowd go crazy, your groove meter rise and gain respect. Of course, the more plates you have the greater your choice.

At the top of the screen are located your two most important indicators: the "GROOVE" meter and the "PARTY" meter . The "GROOVE" meter represents the crowd's reaction to EVERY plate you spin on the turntable. The "PARTY" meter represents the overall party points you gain by spinning the right plates. Unlike the "GROOVE" meter, it never goes down but it does goes up at different rates. The higher you score on the "GROOVE" meter, the faster the "PARTY" meter goes up. The success of your night depends on how high you score on the "PARTY" meter.

You can spin up to 10 plates in an evening, with an added bonus of 2 (if you have enough energy left to do so...).

When your session is over, the party host will come and see you to inform you of your performance. In addition, he or she will give you your "CASH" and "RESPECT POINTS" earned. These "RESPECT POINTS" are very valuable as they are needed to help you get into the Clubs! If you've played well enough, he or she may also give you a "HINT" about a particular Club (see "HINTS").

The Clubs are pretty much like house parties, but with two main differences: 1) The crowds are MUCH more difficult to satisfy, and 2) You need to have earned enough respect points AND an invitation to be able to get into a Club.

The only help you have to better guess the musical preferences of a particular club comes from the "HINTS", house party hosts have given to you. These hints are directly related to what you played during the house party. For example, a hint might go like this, "Hey, you'd do okay Saturday night at the X club". If you played mostly Trance and Hardcore during your night, then you know that the crowd Saturday night at the X club probably also likes Trance and Hardcore.

Winning the game

Optimist about your chances? Let us show you what it takes to reach the top: To complete the game you need to win over the crowd by having your "PARTY" meter at its top at the mysterious ultimate rave club. To even gain access to that club, you must already have won over the four (4) Clubs in DJ City. To win over even ONE of these clubs, you need to have 5 successful nights in that club. As mentioned above, you must get an invitation to get into a club PLUS have enough respect points accumulated. And if you still think you have what it takes, you only have 56 VIRTUAL DAYS to do all that fun. Good luck.

Tips on game strategy

- Use your instinct and be realistic... spinning your best plate at the beginning of the evening, won't have the same groove effect if you would spin the same plate, during the peak of your set... it's all about building a momentum...

- Sometimes it's a better idea to skip a shopping day, stay home and sleep to get enough energy back for a good party.

- Beware ! If you're really bad one night ( sucked ! ), you wont be able to enter that party again FOR THE REST OF THE GAME.
